Singing That Lifts The Soul

Musical literacy is taught at Whitefield so that as a community we can sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in our hearts to God (Colossians 3:16).

For over eleven years, Mrs. Martin has been joyfully teaching Kinder Prep through 3rd grade students the fundamentals of reading music and singing the beautiful hymns of our Christian faith. Parents often remark at the joy it is to hear their children singing hymns of deep theology and beauty as they drive to and from school.

Mrs. Slankard teaches music literacy and history to grades 4-6.  These students have the opportunity to participate in Chorus Musicorum once per week after school to learn the basics of harmony. Upper school students may elect to participate in choir and our advanced choir ensemble, Cantate.

Mrs. Slankard, accompanied by Mrs. Martin on the piano, leads our students in song during chapel and our entire community of families in an All-School Hymn Sing twice each year,
